ORLANDO, Fla. -- A 12-year-old girl collapsed and later died after a visit to Walt Disney's Typhoon Lagoon.

Lifeguards said they saw Jerra Kirby, of Newport News, Va., lying on the edge of the water, WESH 2 News reported.

Orange County detectives said Kirby told a concerned lifeguard that she was fine just moments before she stood up and immediately collapsed.

Investigators said the girl had been in the wave pool with her relatives and the lifeguards saw her lying on the edge. Disney officials said the water park's employees called 911, monitored Kirby's condition and started CPR when her breathing and heart stopped.

Reedy Creek Fire and Rescue crews rushed her to Florida Hospital Celebration Health, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Kirby and her relatives had been in the Orlando area since July 29. Her family members said she had no known medical conditions. The Orange County medical examiner is scheduled to perform an autopsy Friday to determine the cause of death.

"We offer our deepest sympathies to the family," said Walt Disney World spokesman Bill Warren. "We are assisting law enforcement's investigation into the case."

This is the third case of a child losing consciousness at a Disney park. In June, 4-year-old Daudi Bamuwamye collapsed and died after riding Mission: Space at Epcot.

A British teen is still in critical condition after riding Disney's Tower Of Terror July 12. She collapsed right after getting off the ride at MGM Studios. She was then rushed to the hospital for brain surgery.
