Disney boss Roy Disney has died from cancer, aged 79 on December 16. The nephew of studio founder Walt Disney, Roy began working for the film company as an assistant director.

Closed for a major rehab on April 19 and formally re-opened  November 22. The new interactive queue now features 87 video-game stations to keep guests entertained while they wait in line, the ride-loading area was enclosed with a themed ceiling to prevent light from reaching the main chamber plus various other things to help keep the ride in the dark.

During the rehab of Space Mountain in Tomorrowland the Tomorrowland Skyway station was finally removed along with the gift shop that was there.

The American Idol Experience opens.

Resorts>> Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas:
Phase 1 of Kidani Village opened on May 1, 2009 as part of the Disney Vacation Club. At that time, the main lodge building was renamed Jambo House. Phase 2 is expected to open autumn of 2009

Sanaa restaurant opens at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas, Kidani House.

Tren-D boutique opens.

Characters in Flight, a tethered balloon ride adventure, opens at Downtown Disney.
