- Magic Kingdom: Tomorrowland-ExtraTERRORestrial Alien
Encounter -
ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, which opened in
1994 and replaces Mission to Mars, becomes a strong contender--along with
Space Mountain--as the signature attraction in Tomorrowland. When you visit
this interplanetary trade center, you will be among the first to see a demonstration
of a new technology that will allow objects--and even people--to be transported
instantaneously across galactic distances. Of course, as with all new technologies,
things may go a little awry--but not to worry. As is customary with Disney
attractions, there is a short animatronic character pre-show that sets the
scene.
- Studios: Ace Ventura, Pet Detective
- A live-action show based on the film Ace Ventura, Pet Detective,
started performances on New York Street in 1995.
- Resorts: Hotel Plaza: Doubletree Guest Suite Resort
- The Pickett Suites is renamed Doubletree Guest Suite Resort
- Resorts: Hotel Plaza: Courtyard by Marriott
- The Howard Johnson was remodeled and renamed the Courtyard by Marriott in
1995.
- Magic Kingdom: Main Street Athletic Shop
- This shop, which features sports-oriented souvenirs, replaced the
House of Magic, the Main Street Bookstore, and the Penny Arcade in the summer
of 1995.
- Resorts: Polynesian-'Ohana (formerly the Papeete
Bay Verandah)
- The main restaurant at the Polynesian Resort was
transformed from the Papeete Bay Verandah into 'Ohana in the spring of 1995.
'Ohana is a family style restaurant serving Hawaiian-style all-you-can-eat
food with skewered meats roasted over an open fire.
- Resorts: Grand Floridian-Wedding Pavilion
- Although technically not part of the Grand Floridian, the Wedding Pavilion,
opened June 1995, is located next to the Grand Floridian in the space between
the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian Resort. Designed as a large, enclosed
Victorian gazebo, this site was developed to meet the growing demand for couples
desiring to be married at Walt Disney World. A complete wedding planning service
is provided. Weddings of all sizes can be accommodated and, if you like, you
can arrange to have the bride arrive in Cinderella's Glass Coach and the groom
on a white horse, with Mickey and Minnie as the witnesses!
- WDW Epcot: The Land--Circle of Life: An Environmental
Fable
- The 13 minute, live action & animated movie Circle of
Life: An Environmental Fable starring Pumbaa and Timon of Lion King fame
replaced the ho-hum movie Symbiosis on January 21, 1995. This attraction,
which one previously never had to wait to get into, now often has lines snaking
around the main corridor.
- Recreation: Blizzard Beach - Walt
Disney World's third water park, opened April 1995, focuses primarily on water
slides & rides in an interesting alpine environment. Popular with the younger
crowd.
- Recreation: Speedway - The Walt Disney
World Speedway was dedicated.
- Animal Kingdom: Was announced as Walt
Disney World's 4th Theme park with an opening date of Spring 1998
